Does this sound familiar?
Sports injuries can show up in different ways. You might notice:
- Pain that starts during or after training
- A niggle that keeps coming back every time you increase your load
- Stiffness or tightness that limits your performance
- Swelling, tenderness or bruising after a knock or twist
- Pain in a joint such as your knee, ankle, hip or shoulder
- Feeling weaker or less stable on one side
We'll look at how the injury happened and how you move, so we can treat the cause and help stop it coming back.
What causes sports injuries?
Most sports injuries come from load the body wasn't ready for, rather than bad luck. Common reasons include:
Doing too much too soon
Ramping up distance, weight or training days faster than your body can adapt.
Repetitive movements
Running, cycling and swimming repeat the same motion thousands of times.
Skipping the warm-up
Cold muscles and joints are less ready for sudden effort.
Falls and knocks
Contact, tumbles and twisted ankles on trails or in the surf.
Stiff joints
A stiff joint makes the muscles and joints around it work harder.
Footwear and technique
Worn-out shoes or small technique faults add up over time.
How we treat it
Every treatment starts with listening to your full story and assessing how the injured area and the joints around it move. Your treatment is then tailored to you and may combine:
Chiropractic adjustments
Gentle adjustments to restore movement in stiff joints. The pop is optional.
Mobilisations
Slower, gentle movements to restore range of motion after an injury.
Dry needling
Releases tight, overworked muscles and trigger points.
Kinesio taping
Supports injured muscles and joints so you can keep moving while they heal.
Massage gun therapy
Percussive therapy to aid recovery in tight, tired muscles.

"I highly recommend Dr. Crestani! She is excellent at what she does. I see her for my back and neck pain and she always manages to sort me out. What I really appreciate is that she incorporates different techniques, including dry needling, to make sure the treatment is effective. She is professional, caring, and really knows her stuff. I always leave feeling so much better!"
Sports injury questions
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the type of injury, how long you've had it and your goals. We'll talk you through a plan at your first visit and adjust it as you improve.
Do I have to stop training?
Not always. Where possible we'll help you modify your training rather than stop completely, and give you a plan to build back up safely.
I'm nervous about being adjusted. Is there another option?
Yes. Adjustments are only one option. Mobilisations, dry needling, taping and soft tissue work can all be used instead, and nothing is done without your consent.
Can I claim from my medical aid?
You can claim for your sessions from your medical aid. You pay at your session and we email you an invoice to submit to your scheme. Our fees are below standard medical aid rates.
