Does this sound familiar?

Hip and knee pain can show up in different ways. You might notice:

  • An ache in your hip, groin or buttock
  • Knee pain going up or down stairs or hills
  • Stiffness when you stand up after sitting
  • Pain that builds during or after walking or running
  • Clicking, catching or a feeling of the knee giving way
  • Pain at night when lying on your side

Hip pain is sometimes coming from the lower back, and knee pain from the hip or foot. We'll assess the whole chain, not just the sore spot.

What causes hip and knee pain?

Hips and knees take a lot of load every day, and pain often comes from how the whole leg moves. Common reasons include:

Long hours sitting

Sitting tightens the hip muscles and can leave hips and knees stiff.

Running and training load

Increasing distance or hills faster than your body can adapt.

Weak hip muscles

Weak glutes let the knee drift inwards, loading the joint unevenly.

Stiff joints

A stiff hip, back or ankle makes the knee work harder.

Wear and tear

Age-related changes such as arthritis can make joints achy and stiff.

Old injuries

A previous sprain or knock can change how you move.

How we treat it

Every treatment starts with listening to your full story and assessing how your hips, knees, lower back and feet move together. Your treatment is then tailored to you and may combine:

Chiropractic adjustments

Gentle adjustments to free up stiff joints in your hips, pelvis and lower back. The pop is optional.

Mobilisations

Slower, gentle movements to restore movement in the hip and knee.

Dry needling

Releases tight hip, thigh and calf muscles that load the joints.

Kinesio taping

Supports the knee or hip while you stay active.

Massage gun therapy

Percussive therapy to release tight leg and hip muscles.

Advice for home

Strength and mobility exercises to support your hips and knees.

Hip & knee questions

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what's causing your pain, how long you've had it and your goals. We'll talk you through a plan at your first visit and adjust it as you improve.

Can you help with arthritis?

We can't reverse arthritis, but gentle treatment and the right exercises can often help with stiffness, pain and keeping you moving.

I'm nervous about being adjusted. Is there another option?

Yes. Adjustments are only one option. Mobilisations, dry needling, taping and soft tissue work can all be used instead, and nothing is done without your consent.

Can I claim from my medical aid?

You can claim for your sessions from your medical aid. You pay at your session and we email you an invoice to submit to your scheme. Our fees are below standard medical aid rates.
